Alfred Clint
Alfred Clint was born in London, the son and pupil of the portrait painter, engraver and miniature painter George Clint A.R.A. A painter of landscapes, coastal scenes and portraits, he was president of the Society of British Artists. He first exhibited at the British Institution in 1828 where he went on to exhibit 406 works altogether. The following year and then continually for forty years he exhibited at the Royal Academy. Most of his exhibits were coastal scenes and of a high quality. J. Mass writes about him as “He could devise fine effects, at times rivalling Danby in the red glow of the sunsets” The year after his death Christie’s held a studio sale of his work.
