George Clare

A painter of fruits and flowers, he worked in Birmingham, England. He exhibited in 1864, 1866 and 1867 at the Royal Academy. He also exhibited at the British Institution, which was established as a rival to the Royal Academy and was located at Boydell's Shakespeare Gallery in Pall Mall, London, and at the Royal Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street. He was an imitator of William Henry Hunt's small detailed pictures of fruit, flowers, blossom and birds' nests. He was the patriarch of a prolific family of artists who all painted in comparable styles, his sons being the painters Oliver and Vincent Clare.
