John Christian (Charles) Maggs
John Charles Maggs ran a painting school in Bath, England, spawned by his fame as an expert coaching painter. Although he never exhibited his works in London, he was widely patronized by lovers of coaching, including Queen Victoria. This arrival of the mail was an exciting and highly anticipated event for villagers, as it was the primary means of communication in 1891. This painting previously belonged to Universal Studios.
